Hi I have a hard drive that went bust. I still can access it using recovery software and retrieve all the data which is pretty handy. However I need to return it to get a replacement because of warranty but I wouldn't want anyone accessing the data I have on it. I tried some of the wipe programs but since windows cannot see they cannot see it either. Any ideas? How to wipe data off a damaged hard drive?
to ensure your stuff is wiped clean use Gnome Partition Editor its free work very well and will protect any data you may have had. if your Bios detects your drive you can use the gnome partition. Otherwise you could try to degauss it.
(for the software burn the live cd and run it)How to wipe data off a damaged hard drive?
A really strong magnet.
EDIT - Sorry. A magnet would work, but may screw things up in the circuitry bad enough to void the warranty. If it contains ';sensitive'; files that absolutely cannot been seen by anybody, then a bonfire is your only solution.
